Choosing skid steer attachments
Fit comes first. Check the mount, the hydraulics, the weight and the width before you look at price.
1. Mount type
Most full-size skid steers and compact track loaders use the universal skid steer quick-attach plate. Mini skid steers and some older or specialty machines use different mounts. Check your machine before you order, and tell us the make and model so we can confirm the fit.
2. Hydraulic flow
Powered attachments like augers, brush cutters, mowers and trenchers need the right hydraulic flow. Machines come as standard flow or high flow. Match the attachment's flow range to your machine. Too little flow and it is slow; the wrong motor for high flow can overheat or fail. Your machine's spec sheet lists its flow and pressure.
3. Couplers, hoses and wiring
Some attachments need flat-face couplers, case drain lines or an electrical harness. On the brands where we show complete prices, the price includes the couplers, hoses and wiring the attachment requires.
4. Weight and capacity
An attachment's weight comes off your machine's rated operating capacity. A heavy grapple full of logs on a small machine can be unsafe. Compare the attachment weight plus the load to your machine's rated capacity.
5. Width
Buckets, grapples and brush cutters are usually picked to be about as wide as the machine's tracks or tires, or a bit wider, so you can drive through what you cut or carry. Very wide tools can overload a small machine.
6. Start with the job
- Brush and storm cleanup: grapple buckets, brush cutters
- Moving pallets, bales and lumber: pallet forks, bale spears
- Fence posts and footings: auger drives and bits
- Grading and gravel: box blades and graders
- Snow: pushers, blades and buckets
