What we offer North Dakota buyers

Delivery and shipping

Delivery is available. The cost depends on distance and how easy the site is to reach, so we quote it for your address. Attachments can ship. Send your zip code with your quote request and we will include it.

Planning for snow and frost

Snow load. The snow a roof has to carry is set by your local building code, and it changes from place to place. In the Upper Midwest the design snow load generally gets higher as you go north. If your county or city requires a permit, ask for a building with engineered drawings rated for the snow and wind loads at your address before you order. We can tell you what is available for your site.

Roof style. On metal buildings, a vertical roof (panels run from the peak down to the eave) sheds snow and rain better than a horizontal roof. It is the usual choice where winters are long.

Frost. Frost heave can lift and shift anything that is not set below the frost line or on a well-drained base. Footings and slabs for permanent buildings follow local code. Portable buildings sit on a level, compacted, well-drained gravel pad so water does not collect and freeze under the floor.

Wind and drifting snow. Open ground means more wind and more drifting. Think about which way doors face, keep large doors out of the prevailing wind when you can, and ask about wind-rated anchoring. Frost goes deep in North Dakota, so check footing depth with your county.

This is general planning information, not engineering or code advice. Your local building department has the final say on permits, setbacks, snow and wind loads, and footing depth.
